From the Studio
Della Star is the handbuilt and wheel-thrown pottery of Chelsea Morgan — pieces built one at a time in San Antonio, Texas: functional mugs, hand-carved sculptural work, and a fair amount of mushrooms, snails, and other small strange creatures. She’s a member and teacher at Throwin’ Gold Pottery Studio and the San Antonio Potters Guild, where she’s taught fairy house and hand-building classes.
How It’s Made
Everything starts as a lump of clay on the wheel or in her hands, thrown, trimmed, carved, bisque fired, glazed, and fired again before it’s ready for a shelf, a market table, or a mug of coffee.

Hand-built with coils and slabs, or thrown on the wheel, trimmed, carved, and detailed before the first firing.
Glazed and Fired
After the first firing, each piece is glazed by hand, then fired again at a higher temperature to seal the color and seal it for everyday use.
